The M1 MacBook Air is still the right call in 2025.
Yes, absolutely — for basic tasks it’s still one of the best value laptops you can buy. The M1 chip was such a leap that it aged gracefully, not like Intel models that feel ancient after three years.
Web browsing, email, Office, video calls, light photo editing — all run buttery smooth. Battery life still competes with new Windows laptops. The screen and build are identical to the 2022 redesign, just with a slightly thicker bezel. The only real downsides are the 8GB RAM base (which is fine for basic use, but 16GB is better if you can find it) and only two USB-C ports. No MagSafe or 1080p webcam, but those aren’t dealbreakers for casual use.
If you see a deal under $600, grab it. The M2 Air is nicer but not twice the price nicer. For basic stuff, you won’t feel outdated. Save the extra cash for something that actually matters.
