The price gap between 16GB and 32GB DDR4 is barely worth worrying about.
It’s usually around $20 to $30, and the 32GB kit gives you better per-gigabyte value anyway.
Right now (early 2025), a decent 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 kit runs about $25–35. A 32GB (2x16GB) kit of the same speed is $45–60. So you’re looking at maybe a 25–30 dollar difference.
Here’s the thing: DDR4 is at the tail end of its life. Prices are about as low as they’ll ever get. The 32GB kit costs more upfront, but you’re paying roughly the same per gigabyte — sometimes less. If your motherboard has two slots and you’re building or upgrading a DDR4 system, I’d just go 32GB. The extra headroom for multitasking or heavier games is worth it, and you won’t have to upgrade again.
