The Thermos Stainless King is still the soup champ.

The Thermos Stainless King food jar is the best vacuum-insulated container for keeping soup hot for hours, and its twist-seal lid is leakproof enough to toss in a bag.

It’s the boring answer, but it’s boring for a reason. Double-wall vacuum insulation holds stew hot for a legit 12 hours — I’ve opened one at 2pm and still burned my tongue. The wide mouth lets you eat straight out of it with a spoon, which is non-negotiable for soup.

Size: get the 16oz for a normal meal, 24oz if you have a real appetite or want leftovers. Both hold heat fine, but the 24oz is noticeably bulkier in a backpack. Skip the tall drink thermoses — they’re for coffee, and eating soup out of one is misery.

The lid is what actually matters. The King uses a rotating seal with a gasket, not a simple push cap, so it won’t leak even on its side under a laptop. Just keep the gasket clean — soup residue is what turns a sealed thermos into a bag-ruiner. The Stanley Master Unbreakable is a solid alternative with a handle, but the Thermos seals better for the money.
