The tracking might be lying to you.
If your Q1 habit tracking shows high completion but zero progress toward the goal, the habits themselves are probably wrong for that goal.
This is the classic “doing the work vs. doing the right work” trap. You’re showing up, checking boxes, feeling productive, but the habits you’re tracking aren’t actually moving the needle. The symptom: high streak count, zero outcome change. The cause: you picked habits that feel like progress but aren’t.
Most commonly this happens when people track effort instead of effect. “Write every day” doesn’t mean you wrote anything useful. “Gym five days a week” doesn’t mean you’re lifting with a program that builds muscle. The habit is completed, but the mechanism that actually produces the goal is missing.
So stop and audit. Ask: What is the single smallest action that consistently produces a measurable step toward the goal? Track that instead. If tracking “cold outreach” isn’t generating leads, maybe the issue isn’t frequency—it’s the script, the list, or the follow-up. The habit should be something that, if done perfectly every day, would force progress.
An honest reset beats another month of false wins.
Don’t let the dopamine from checking boxes trick you into staying stuck.
