The Unreleased ‘Seabirds’ from Pink Floyd’s More Sessions

“Seabirds” is a gentle, fingerpicked acoustic guitar piece by Roger Waters that was recorded during the More soundtrack sessions but never made the final cut. The likely reason is that the track’s quiet, pastoral tone didn’t fit the darker, more aggressive mood of the film—More needed psychedelic rock and tense instrumentals, not a delicate solo lullaby. It was finally released as a bonus track on the 2011 More reissue.

While “Seabirds” wasn’t directly reused or developed into another song, its simple, open-string acoustic feel echoes in Waters’ later works like “Grantchester Meadows” (from Ummagumma) and parts of “If” from Atom Heart Mother. It remains a charming little ghost from a period when Pink Floyd were still figuring out how to marry soundtrack work with their own evolving sound.
