They changed it because there was already another band called The Tea Set—which is about as un-rock-star as it gets. Syd Barrett picked “The Pink Floyd Sound” from two blues musicians’ names, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. They dropped “Sound” a bit later.

Names matter, but “The Tea Set” is a fun dead end.
