Thick insulation matters more than anything else

Thick walls and a tight zipper are what keep your food cold—everything else is secondary.

Most insulated lunch bags are just a thin layer of foil with a pretty exterior. They look fine but lose cold fast. The actual work is done by the insulation: the thicker the padding, the longer the cool stays. Look for a bag that has a substantial layer of foam or multiple layers of thermal material, not just a shiny lining. If the walls feel flimsy when you press them, it won’t make it to noon.
