Thick rubber mousepads do stick to glass desks.

Yes. That suction effect is real and annoying. The rubber base seals against the smooth glass, and if you press down, it forms a vacuum. Moving the pad feels like peeling a phone screen protector off wet glass.

This happens because rubber + glass + pressure = no air gap. Cheap pads with thin foam or fabric bottoms don’t have this problem. But the thick, squishy “gaming” style pads? They’re the worst offenders for this.

If you already have one and hate it, try a desk mat with a textured bottom, or just use a thin cloth pad. Or put a piece of printer paper under the rubber — that breaks the seal. Or accept that your mousepad now stays exactly where you put it forever.
