Think soft and small, not boring and bland
For braces or dental work, the goal is soft and easy to chew—so pack meals that are already broken down: mashed, shredded, pureed, or cut tiny.
Texture matters more than the food itself. Avoid anything hard, crunchy, sticky, or chewy: raw carrots, nuts, popcorn, baguettes, taffy. That’s the real list. Everything else is fair game if you prepare it right.
Good lunchbox staples: yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, soft pasta, rice, well-cooked veggies, canned fruit, applesauce, and smoothies in a thermos. Leftover chili or soup works great. Even a sandwich can work—use soft bread and shred the meat instead of slicing it.
Packing tip: warm foods in a thermos, cold ones with an ice pack. If you’re packing something like a burrito bowl, keep the rice and beans moist so they don’t dry out into a chew challenge. Cut everything smaller than you think you need to.
Your teeth are already doing enough work healing. Don’t make lunch a workout.
