Time Waits for No One and the Recording of It's Only Rock 'n Roll

By 1974 the Rolling Stones were fraying. The album It’s Only Rock ’n Roll was pieced together at Mick Jagger’s country house Stargroves (using the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio) and later at Musicland Studios in Munich. The sessions were loose but tense. Jagger brought in Ronnie Wood, then of the Faces, to play on the title track, which didn’t sit well with Mick Taylor. Taylor was already feeling sidelined as a songwriter—Keith Richards ran the guitar show, and Taylor’s contributions were rarely credited. He had one co-write on the album (“Till the Next Goodbye”) and was growing tired of being a hired hand.

“Time Waits for No One” is the album’s
