Toss a dropped box fan

A dropped or damaged box fan is not safe to use. The risk isn’t worth it.

Here’s the thing: box fans are simple and cheap, but they spin fast. A drop can throw off the blade balance, crack the housing, or loosen the motor mounts. Even if it looks fine, the internal wiring might have a nick or the blade might wobble just enough to rub against something. That creates heat, sparks, or a short.

Fire hazard is real. A box fan that’s taken a hit is more likely to overheat or catch something on fire than a new one. And for what? A new fan costs $15–25. That’s less than a pizza delivery.

Don’t try to “fix” it by bending blades back either — that makes the vibration worse. Just recycle it and buy another.

You wouldn’t drive a car with a bent wheel bearing. Same logic here.
