Two sticks in two slots is the sweet spot.
Yes, and it’s actually the best setup for most systems. You’re not losing anything by having only two slots — you’re using them exactly as intended.
Running 2x8GB in a two-slot motherboard gives you dual-channel memory just as well as 4x4GB in a four-slot board. There’s no performance difference. In fact, two sticks are often easier for the memory controller to handle, especially on Ryzen builds, and they leave room for cleaner airflow around the CPU cooler.
The only real downside? No room to upgrade later without replacing both sticks. But if 16GB is enough for you now, that’s a problem for Future You. And Future You can just sell the pair and buy a 2x16GB kit.
Don’t overthink it. This is the correct way to do it.
