Untwist it at the anchor, not the buckle

The fix is almost always at the end of the strap where it’s attached to the bag, not in the middle where you can see the twist.

What’s happening is the strap got spun around at its anchor point, and the twist just travels up the webbing. You can’t smooth it out by tugging it flat. You have to undo it at the source.

Here’s the move: find where the strap feeds through the plastic adjuster buckle (the one with teeth that you cinch down). Pull the strap end out of it completely, let the webbing untwist naturally, then re-thread it. That usually fixes it in ten seconds.

If the strap is sewn permanently into the bag, you can often unclip the buckle and rotate the whole strap one full turn the opposite way, then re-thread. If it’s truly sewn tight and won’t rotate, the twist is permanent — you can try dampening it and ironing it flat, but honestly that’s a coin flip. Just live with it or replace the strap.

And the “won’t tighten” part is usually the same problem: the twisted webbing is wedged sideways in the buckle, so the teeth can’t grip. Untwist and re-thread and it’ll cinch fine.

Ten seconds of unthreading beats years of fighting that strap.
