Use containers, not wrap
You don’t need plastic wrap or zip bags to pack a lunch — just switch to reusable containers and a little common sense.
For sandwiches, beeswax wraps work great. They fold around the bread and stay put with the warmth of your hands. If you don’t like the wax feel, a sturdy bento box with a tight lid keeps a sandwich whole without any wrap at all.
For snacks like nuts, grapes, or crackers, use small silicone bags or tiny glass/steel containers. The silicone ones squish into empty corners of the lunchbox, which is nice. And for anything wet or saucy, a couple of small glass bowls with snap lids beat plastic bags forever — no leaks, no weird smells, no waste.
The only real adjustment is washing. You rinse stuff, you dry it, you put it in the lunchbox again. That’s the whole secret. It’s not harder, just a different rhythm.
One-time buy, then you’re done. Your lunchbox gets a lot more pleasant to open too.
