Use the same three-box system for your desktop as your desk

Physical decluttering works because you handle one item at a time and make a call: keep, toss, or relocate. Digital clutter is the exact same problem, just with pixels. But most people skip the decision step and just move digital stuff into folders, which only hides the mess. That’s the digital version of shoving papers into a drawer.

Here’s the method: pick a folder or your email inbox. Set a timer for 15 minutes. Open each file or email once. Delete what you don’t need. Archive what you might need later. Keep only what you actively use. That’s it. No nested folders. No “sort by date and pray.” Just brutal, honest decisions with a hard time limit.
