Use the seatbelt on your lunch box.

The easiest fix is to just buckle the seatbelt over your lunch box.

Seriously. Pull the passenger seatbelt across it and click it in. The belt holds it snug against the seat, and it won’t go anywhere during turns, hard braking, or that one pothole you always hit. It works for backpacks, grocery bags, and basically anything else that’s too big to fall into the footwell.

If your lunch box is too small and the belt can’t reach, or you just hate the look, grab a cheap non-slip mat — the same rubbery stuff you put in drawers. Throw it on the seat, lunch box on top, and it’ll stay put much better than bare upholstery. A folded jacket or towel works in a pinch too.

And if you really want zero movement, the floor behind the passenger seat is the most stable spot in the car. But then you have to reach back there at every red light, so only do that if you’re okay with the stretch.

Strap it in. It takes two seconds and your sandwich won’t end up on the floor.
