Vinegar and water is all you need
Vinegar and water is all you need.
Yes, a 50/50 vinegar and water soak does the job.
Scale builds up on the cell plates over time and kills chlorine output. That white crust isn’t just ugly—it insulates the plates and makes the system work harder. A quick soak dissolves it.
Pull the cell, rinse it with a hose, then submerge it in the vinegar solution for 15–30 minutes. Longer if it’s thick. Rinse again, reinstall, and you’re back to full production. Don’t use metal brushes or acid washes unless you really know what you’re doing—they’ll wreck the coating.
Do this every 3 months during swim season, or when you notice the “clean cell” light come on. Your pool will thank you.
