Wall-mounted racks and collapsible bins fix a tiny laundry room

The quickest way to declutter a small laundry room is to put drying racks on the wall and swap rigid bins for collapsible ones.

Floor space is the enemy here. A folding drying rack takes up two square feet that you could use for walking or sorting. Mount a wall-mounted rack that folds flat when not in use. Put it over the washer or beside a window. You almost never need a giant rack unless you’re drying a whole load of towels by hand. A small folding rack on the wall handles delicates and hand-wash items just fine.

Collapsible bins are the other half of this. Rigid bins look tidy but they create a permanent footprint. You can’t move them without emptying them, and they collect dust. Collapsible bins fold flat in seconds. Stack them on a shelf or hang them on a hook. You get storage when you need it, and air when you don’t. The key is to use them for things you don’t touch daily—extra detergent, stain sticks, dryer sheets. Keep the everyday stuff in a small caddy that lives on the countertop.

One more thing: don’t overdo it. One wall rack and two collapsible bins is enough. More than that and you’re just organizing clutter into clutter.
