Waterproof mousepads will make your hand sweat more.

Yes, generally. The waterproof layer is essentially a plastic or rubber barrier that traps heat and moisture against your skin. That “breathability” you get from cloth or mesh? Gone.

Most waterproof mousepads are just a thin layer of fabric over a solid rubber or PVC base. The waterproofing is either a coating or a laminate, neither of which lets air through. Your hand rests on that surface for hours—sweat has nowhere to go. It pools, it feels clammy, and it gets gross faster.

If you really need waterproof (spills, messy desk), get a hard plastic or glass pad. Those don’t breathe either, but they wipe clean instantly and don’t absorb sweat the same way fabric does. Otherwise, stick with a regular cloth pad. The sweat tradeoff isn’t worth it.
