Weekends need a lower bar, not a free pass

The trick is to set a weekend minimum that keeps the streak alive without burning you out.

Most people crash on weekends because they plan the same intensity for Saturday as Tuesday. That’s naive. Your Saturday has laundry, errands, friends, maybe a hangover. Your Tuesday has a routine. Treating both the same is how you quit by February.

Instead, define two tiers. Weekdays are full effort — whatever your real goal is. Weekends get a “floor” version: maybe 5 minutes of the habit, or 50% of the reps, or just checking in on the tracker. The point is to not break the chain. A 5-minute Saturday counts as success. No guilt.

If the Q1 goal really requires daily effort, you don’t need max effort every day. You need some effort every day. Your brain cares about streaks more than volume. So keep the streak alive on weekends by lowering the bar until it’s laughably easy to pass.

You can also use a weekly total target instead of a daily one. That gives you flexibility: suck on Saturday, crush it on Sunday, or vice versa. But if you’re a creature of streaks (most of us are), the weekend minimum works better.

Q1 is a marathon, not a sprint. Treat weekends like water stations, not finish lines.
