Weight the bottom shelf
The easiest fix is to add weight to the bottom shelf so the center of gravity stays low.
Shoe racks tip because they’re tall and light. The top fills up with shoes (heavy), the bottom stays empty, and one bump sends everything over. The goal is to make the bottom heavier than the top.
Don’t drill into the floor or use adhesives that could peel paint or leave residue. Instead, slide a non-slip rubber rug pad under the rack’s feet. That alone stops most sliding on smooth floors. Then fill the bottom shelf with heavy stuff—old textbooks, dumbbells, a gallon jug of water, bags of sand. You can also hang a small sandbag or weight plate on the rack’s lower bar if it has one.
No damage, no tools, and you can undo it in ten seconds if you move. Just keep the weight low and out of the way.
You’ll spend five minutes fixing this and never curse that rack again.
