What Pink Floyd Was Called Before They Became The Pink Floyd Sound

Before they settled on The Pink Floyd Sound, the band was called The Tea Set. That name came straight from a common tea interval at a friend’s house: when they needed a name for a gig, Syd Barrett just pointed to a tea set nearby.

Earlier still, during their art school days with a rotating lineup, the core members played under names like Sigma 6, The Megadeaths, and The Architectural Abdabs. But it was The Tea Set that stuck until they discovered another band already owned that name — which prompted the switch to The Pink Floyd Sound.
