A self-emptying station means you never touch dust

The docking station is the unsung hero of the robot vacuum ecosystem. Basic stations just charge the robot — the vacuum returns when the battery runs low or the cleaning cycle ends, clicks onto metal contact plates, and waits for the next mission. That’s enough to make a robot vacuum useful; you never have to remember to plug it in.

Self-emptying stations are a different tier entirely. When the robot docks, a powerful vacuum in the base pulls debris from the robot’s bin into a sealed bag inside the station. You don’t touch the dust, you don’t empty the bin after every run, and the bag typically lasts a month or more before it needs replacing.

The difference between a basic station and a self-emptying one is the difference between a robot you manage and a robot that manages itself. The basic station means the robot stays charged. The self-emptying station means you never think about it.
