Which Rolling Stones Album Cover Was Banned for a Urinal?

The banned cover belongs to Beggars Banquet (1968). The original design by Tom Wilkes and Barry Feinstein showed a graffiti-covered bathroom wall with a urinal, overflowing toilet, and scrawled political slogans. Decca Records refused to release it, calling it “offensive” and “vulgar.”

The band eventually compromised: the album came out in the UK with a plain white sleeve styled like a formal invitation. The toilet cover was later used for CD reissues and foreign pressings. Wilkes later said the idea came from wanting to contrast the messy state of the world with the Stones’ polished music.
