Yes, an enhanced driver's license works for walking into Canada.

As long as it’s a real enhanced driver’s license (EDL) from a state that issues them (New York, Michigan, Vermont, Washington, Minnesota), you can use it at the pedestrian crossing on the Rainbow Bridge. Same as a passport for land and sea borders.

The confusion comes because people think “walking” is different from “driving.” It isn’t. The same rules apply: EDL is valid for entry into Canada by land, whether you’re in a car or on foot.

Just make sure your EDL is current and not expired. And don’t forget you’ll need it to re-enter the US too. Same deal on the way back.

That’s it. A passport is still the most universal option, but an EDL saves you the wallet space if you’re just doing the border hop.
