Most ASUS Z690 boards handle 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 at 6000MHz just fine. XMP is basically one-click tuning, and that motherboard generation was built for it. You’re not doing anything weird.
But here’s the thing: not all DDR5 sticks play nice with every board, even at rated speeds. ASUS publishes a Qualified Vendors List (QVL) for each Z690 model. Spend five minutes on their support page and confirm your exact RAM kit is on there. If it is, you’re golden. If it’s not, you might still be fine — but you could also get random crashes or boot loops.
The real gotcha is mixing RAM or using four sticks at high speed. Two sticks at 6000MHz? That’s the sweet spot. Just make sure your BIOS is updated to the latest version before you enable XMP. Old BIOS = headache.
