Yes, cold makes silicone mousepads stiff and slippery.

Cold temperatures turn the silicone hard, like a stale gummy bear. It loses its tack, so the pad slides around and your mouse doesn’t track as smoothly. Warm it up with your hand or a low desk lamp and it goes back to normal. Nothing is broken, it’s just physics.

If your desk is in a drafty corner or you’re a fan of air conditioning in the winter, expect this. Silicone’s grip literally depends on a little heat to stay soft and sticky. Room temperature is fine, but anything below about 60°F (15°C) and you’ll notice.

Not much you can do except keep the room warm or use a cloth pad instead. Cloth doesn’t care about cold.
