Yes, woven textures will wear skates unevenly over time.
The high points of the weave act like sandpaper on the smaller, softer PTFE skates. A smooth surface distributes pressure evenly; a woven one concentrates it on the peaks. This leads to flat spots and grooves, especially if you favor one direction.
It’s not a disaster — you’ll get months of use before it matters — but if you’re a competitive gamer or hate replacing skates, stick to a smooth cloth pad or a hard surface. Your mouse will glide better for longer.
I’d rather replace a $30 pad than deal with uneven skates every few months.
