Yes, you need a separate sunscreen.

Moisturizer with SPF is better than nothing, but it’s rarely enough. Most people don’t apply enough moisturizer to get the labeled SPF protection — you need about a shot glass worth of sunscreen for your whole body, and a nickel-sized blob for your face alone. That’s way more moisturizer than anyone actually uses.

Also, SPF in moisturizers is usually lower (like SPF 15 or 20) and often not broad spectrum. You want SPF 30+ that covers UVA and UVB. And if you’re going outside for more than a quick errand, you’ll need to reapply — which is awkward with a moisturizer.

Just buy a separate sunscreen you actually like wearing. Your face won’t melt.
