Yes, you want a non-slip mousepad on laminated wood.
Laminated wood is slick. Most mousepads with plain rubber bottoms will slide around on it. A non-slip base—usually a sticky gel or grippy silicone—keeps the pad exactly where you put it, which is the whole point of having a mousepad.
Without it, you’ll constantly nudge the pad out of position. That’s annoying for casual use and genuinely frustrating if you’re gaming or doing precise work. The non-slip ones cost maybe five bucks more. Worth it.
Just make sure the adhesive or grip doesn’t leave residue on your desk. Most modern ones are fine, but cheap knockoffs can turn sticky after a few hot months. Spend the extra couple dollars for a known brand.
