You Already Own the Lunchbox
You can pack a completely plastic-free lunch using stuff you already own — no special containers, no beeswax wraps, no shopping trip required.
Glass jars are your workhorses. You’ve got a cupboard full of empty jam jars, salsa jars, pickle jars. They handle soup, yogurt, fruit, salad dressing, leftovers. A wide-mouth jar is ideal for salads if you put the dressing at the bottom and layer veggies on top, but any jar works for most things.
For sandwiches and dry stuff, wax paper or parchment paper folded into a package is the classic move. Takes 10 seconds to learn the fold. A clean kitchen towel or cloth napkin does the same job and doubles as a napkin once lunch is over. Just wrap, tie, and go.
The only rule: wet goes in jars, heavy goes in jars, everything else gets wrapped. You’re not reinventing anything. You’re just using what’s already in your kitchen instead of reaching for a baggie.
Honestly, the habit is the only hard part. Give it a week and grabbing a jar will feel weirder than grabbing a bag.
