Yes, you can drop standard chlorine tablets into a salt water pool, but it defeats the purpose. Salt water pools use a chlorine generator to produce chlorine from salt, so adding tabs is like buying bottled water when you have a tap. More importantly, those tablets are often stabilized with cyanuric acid (CYA), which builds up over time and can lock your chlorine, making it useless. Too much CYA is a common headache for pool owners — and salt systems already tend to run high on CYA if you’re not careful. Stick to liquid chlorine or non-stabilized shock if you absolutely need a boost. Trust the generator, not the tabs. Future You will thank you for less chemical juggling.
