You can't reverse a slick spot.
That shiny, glassy patch in the middle of your expensive mousepad is dead skin, oils, and ground-in grime that have literally flattened the fabric’s texture. You can’t un-flatten fibers.
High-end soft pads (like Artisan, Skypad, or your favorite brand) use a woven cloth surface with a specific texture for consistent glide. Months of your wrist, forearm, and mouse moving over the same spot compress those fibers and fill the microscopic gaps with body oils. The result is a hydrophobic, smooth patch that feels faster and less controlled than the rest of the pad.
Can you fix it? Not really. A deep clean with mild soap and water will remove surface oils and maybe improve feel for a few days, but the physical compression is permanent. The pad’s life is just shorter than you hoped.
If the slick spot bothers you, buy a new pad. Rotating your pad (top to bottom) every few months can delay the problem, but eventually every soft pad becomes a slick pad in your most-used zone. That’s the trade-off for that buttery glide.
Hard pads don’t get slick spots. They just wear out differently.
