Intel Optane is not RAM – it’s a caching drive. It won’t make your 8GB of soldered memory turn into 16GB. It just speeds up disk access, which is a different problem.
Virtual memory (paging) uses your SSD as overflow, but that’s not extra RAM either. It’s running slower. When Windows starts swapping, everything drags. 8GB with a fast SSD can feel okay for web browsing and Office, but try opening a dozen Chrome tabs plus Slack and it’ll chug.
The only real fix: buy a laptop with 16GB soldered, or one with a slot. You cannot trick physics. Soldered is soldered.
Future you deserves a machine that doesn’t fight back.
