You cannot upgrade the SSD on an M2 or M3 MacBook Air.

Apple solders the storage directly to the motherboard on these models. There is no slot, no connector, no way to swap it later. What you buy is what you get — forever.

This is not like the old Intel Airs that had a removable SSD. The M-series chips use a custom controller and flash package that’s part of the main board. If you want more storage, you need to pay for it upfront.

I know it stings. Apple’s upgrade prices are brutal. But third-party repairs are not an option yet, and likely never will be for the current generation. The only workaround is external storage — a fast Thunderbolt drive or a decent USB-C SSD — but that’s not really “upgrading.”

Choose wisely. Future You will thank you for that extra 256GB now.
