You need a cooler, not a lunch bag
You need a cooler, not a lunch bag.
For a 12-hour shift without refrigeration, you’ve got two safe options: pack food that doesn’t need cold, or build a real cooler setup. A soft lunch bag with one ice pack is not going to hold food safely for that long.
The rule is simple: perishable food left in the “danger zone” (40°F to 140°F) for more than 2 hours starts growing bacteria. Twelve hours is six times that. So your food either needs to stay genuinely cold, stay genuinely hot, or not need either.
Easiest solution: pack shelf-stable food. Peanut butter sandwiches, nuts, dried fruit, apples, oranges, granola bars, jerky, crackers, canned tuna pouches. Nothing there spoils, no ice required, zero worry.
