You probably can't replace the RAM in a slim laptop.

Most slim laptops (MacBooks, Dell XPS, Surface Laptops, etc.) have RAM soldered directly to the motherboard. That means zero upgrade options. No slots, no tricks, no “just pop it in.”

If you have a thin Windows laptop that does have RAM slots (rare these days), you’ll need a precision screwdriver set, a plastic spudger, and a lot of patience. The chassis is usually held together with clips and adhesive, not screws. One wrong pry and you crack the plastic or damage the ribbon cable.

And if you do get inside, the RAM slots are often buried under the motherboard or require removing the entire cooling system. This is not a 10-minute upgrade.

Buy the configuration you need upfront. Future-proofing with soldered RAM isn’t a choice—it’s the only option.
