Yes, the skin under your beard needs sunscreen just as much as the rest of your face. Beard hair is not a perfect UV shield, and that skin is still getting burned — you just don’t notice it until later.

Apply sunscreen to your entire face, then work it into the beard with your fingers. A lotion or cream is better than a spray because you can actually massage it down to the skin. Don’t worry about it making your beard look greasy — use a matte or dry-touch formula if that bothers you.

If you have a very dense or long beard, you might prefer a sunscreen stick or a beard-specific SPF balm. Those are easier to target the skin without coating every strand. But the cheap way works too: just rub lotion in like you’re shampooing a tiny mammal.
