You want 40 psi, not the 20 psi your fridge manual mentions
Most refrigerator ice makers will technically run at 20 psi, but you should aim for 40 psi if you want decent ice and no error codes.
The manual usually says something like “20–120 psi,” and that’s the honest mechanical limit. But in reality, at 20 psi the water valve opens slower, the ice mold fills partially, and you end up with small, hollow, or misshapen cubes. Some fridges will even throw a water filter error or just stop making ice after a few cycles.
What actually matters is flow, not just pressure. At low psi, the fill takes too long and the controller thinks something is wrong. If you’ve got a well pump or a whole-house pressure reducer set low, a booster pump or a dedicated 1/4-inch line straight from the supply is a better fix than replacing the fridge.
If you’re below 30 psi and you’re getting weak ice, don’t blame the refrigerator. Check the supply line, filter, and pressure first—then decide if it’s worth a booster pump.
Don’t trust the minimum spec. Trust your ice cubes.
