Your CPU's memory controller is a lottery.

You can’t know for sure without trying.

The CPU’s official spec sheet lists supported speeds (like DDR5-5600 or DDR4-3200). But high-frequency 32GB kits are nearly always running faster than stock, which means overclocking the integrated memory controller (IMC). Some chips handle it fine, some don’t—even two of the same model can behave differently.

Motherboard matters too. Check the motherboard’s QVL (qualified vendor list) for your exact CPU generation. That list is your best bet for a known-working combo. Then search Reddit or forums for your CPU + motherboard + memory kit combo and see if people are hitting your target speed.

If you don’t want to gamble, stick to the official supported speed. Otherwise, buy a QVL-listed kit, set XMP/DOCP, and cross your fingers.

Future you might be cursing or cheering.
