Your desk mat won't tip your monitor.
Probably not. Unless your mat is thick memory foam or a squishy gel pad.
Most monitor arm bases are heavy and wide — they clamp or sit on a solid surface. A thin desk mat (think neoprene or felt, like a Grovemade or standard desk pad) compresses slightly but doesn’t create enough instability to matter. The base still has good contact with the desk underneath.
Where it can be an issue: thick, soft mats (like a plush gaming mouse pad or a cushy craft mat). Those let the base sink in unevenly, reduce friction, and can let the arm wobble. Same goes for rubbery mats that slide on the desk surface.
If your mat is thin and grippy, you’re fine. If it’s thick and squishy, either trim a cutout under the base or skip the mat in that spot.
Most people will never notice a difference.
