Your drawer needs a flat bento, not a lunch box.

The only lunch containers that fit a standard 3-inch desk drawer are the low-profile bento boxes and shallow meal-prep containers — not actual “lunch boxes.”

Most office desk drawers have about 2.5 to 3 inches of interior height once you account for the slides and track. A classic lunch box or insulated bag is 4 to 6 inches tall. It isn’t going to happen.

What actually fits:

• Bentgo Kids — about 2.4 inches tall, airtight, and the compartments are a good adult portion size.
• Rubbermaid LunchBlox — the sandwich set is around 2.3 inches. Comes with a little gel ice pack that snaps on top.
• Monbento Original — a single tier is only 1.6 inches. Looks like a sleek tech gadget, which helps with the “discreet” part.
• Pyrex 3-cup glass containers — about 2.5 inches with the lid. Good if you microwave at your desk.
• Sistema Bento Box — runs close to the 3-inch mark. Measure your drawer first; it’s a tight squeeze in some.

Avoid anything with a domed lid, a salad bowl that stacks, or a clip-on utensil holder on top. Those all add height and ruin the fit.

Two more things: measure the actual drawer before you buy anything because “standard” isn’t as standard as you’d think. And get something with a real seal — a leaky lunch container in a drawer full of papers is a bad afternoon.

Measure once, buy once. Your desk drawer deserves better than a Tupperware that doesn’t close.
