Your kid's lunchbox is just a plate with walls.
Organize a compartment lunch box like you’d build a plate: half fruits and veggies, a quarter protein, a quarter carbs, and a small slot for something fun.
The compartments do the portion math for you. If the box has four sections, you already know what goes where. The biggest one gets the plants — some fruit, some veggies, whatever the kid will actually eat. Plants take up the most real estate because they should.
Next, protein in one of the medium slots. Chicken, eggs, beans, yogurt, cheese — pick one and move on. The other medium slot gets the carbs: bread, rice, crackers, pasta. This isn’t a hard rule for every single day, just a rotation that’s easy to repeat without thinking.
The tiny compartment is your best friend. Put a dip in there — hummus, ranch, peanut butter. Kids will eat almost anything if they get to dip it. Or drop in a small treat. And don’t stress the daily balance. Some days will be a carb-heavy disaster, and that’s fine. The ratio works out over the week.
You’re not packing a chef’s tasting menu. You’re packing an afternoon that won’t come home uneaten.
