Your laptop doesn't support ECC RAM.

Almost certainly not.

ECC (Error-Correcting Code) RAM needs support from both the CPU and the motherboard chipset. Consumer laptops — even expensive ones — skip that support entirely. It’s just not part of the design.

There are exceptions: some workstation-class laptops like the Dell Precision 7000 series or Lenovo ThinkPad P series with Intel Xeon or AMD Ryzen Pro chips can take ECC. But those are niche machines built for scientific computing or CAD work. Your everyday gaming laptop or thin-and-light will not work with ECC, and it won’t even POST if you try.

If you need ECC, buy hardware that explicitly lists it. For most people, regular DDR4 or DDR5 is fine.
