Your lunch gets stolen because it looks anonymous
The best way to keep your lunch from being taken is to store it in a distinct lunch bag with your name on it, not as loose Tupperware on a shelf.
Most office fridge theft isn’t deliberate malice. It’s someone grabbing what looks like an unclaimed container or “community leftovers.” A bare plastic box with no label might as well be public property. A lunch bag — especially one that’s not plain black — sends a clear “this belongs to a person” signal.
On top of that, write your name on the bag and add the date if you’re feeling thorough. If you only label the container inside, someone still has to open the bag to see it, and most people won’t bother once they see a name. Put it on a mid-height shelf, not the door. The door gets warmer and things get pushed around more.
And don’t leave it in there forever. Even a labeled bag becomes “that weird thing in the fridge” after a few days. Take it home at the end of the day, or at least on Friday.
A labeled bag won’t stop a true thief, but it will stop the 90% of cases where someone just grabs the wrong thing.
