Your motherboard specs are a quick search away.

Find the model number printed on the board itself, or use a free utility like CPU-Z.

Opening your case is the most reliable way. The model number is usually near the CPU socket or along the edge of the board. If you’d rather not pop the side panel, run msinfo32 in Windows — look for “BaseBoard Product” under System Summary. Or use the command wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer in a terminal.

Once you have the model, go to the manufacturer’s site and pull the spec sheet. It will tell you the number of DIMM slots and the maximum RAM capacity. Most boards made in the last decade support 32GB, but double-check — some budget boards only have two slots.

Don’t guess. One wrong stick and you’re swapping everything.
