Your robot cleaner can handle a solar cover.

Probably. Most robotic pool cleaners work just fine under a solar cover. The cover is thin enough that the robot’s brushes and sensors can still do their job, and the robot itself is heavy enough to push it aside or move underneath.

But it’s not a guarantee. If your solar cover has big air pillows or is old and saggy, the robot might get stuck on top or push the cover into a tangled mess. Similarly, some robots with a high profile (think: big wheels or a tall chassis) can lift the cover and create air pockets that let the cover float away.

Best practice: check your cover’s manual. Some manufacturers say to remove the cover before cleaning. Also, make sure your cover is properly anchored or weighted at the edges. If it’s loose, the robot will fight it.

If you want peace of mind, just run the robot without the cover for an hour, then put the cover back on. That way you get a clean pool without risking a tangled solar blanket.
