Your tiny closet is already a capsule

A capsule wardrobe for a tiny closet is less about buying the right pieces and more about ruthlessly editing what you own.

The small space forces the hard decisions you’ve been avoiding. You can’t stash “maybe” clothes in the back or pile them on a chair. Every item has to earn its hanger. That’s a gift, not a curse.

Start by taking everything out. Yes, all of it. Put back only what fits on 30 hangers and one shelf. If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t belong. That number sounds tight, but it forces a color palette (neutrals + two accent colors) and pieces that work together. Three good pairs of pants beat ten mediocre ones.

Use the vertical space. Hooks on the inside of the door for bags or jackets. Slim velvet hangers instead of bulky plastic. No shoe boxes—use a hanging shoe organizer or just commit to three pairs.

The real trick is maintenance. Every season, pull out anything you didn’t wear. Donate it. Your closet isn’t a museum. If you haven’t worn it in three months, you won’t.

A small closet won’t let you hoard, and that’s the best part.
