Yumbox is the answer for leak-proof lunch boxes
Yumbox is the best lunch box you can buy if you want to pack yogurt or hummus without turning the rest of the meal into a mess. The whole point of a Yumbox is that each compartment is sealed with its own lid and a rubber gasket, so the dip stays in its section even when the box gets tossed around in a backpack.
Other popular bento boxes look close but aren’t actually leak-proof. Bentgo has a nice tray, but the compartments aren’t liquid-tight — turn it sideways with a dollop of yogurt in there and you’ll regret it. PlanetBox is great for dry stuff, but it relies on add-on magnetic cups that are not tight seals either. With Yumbox, you don’t have to think about it. It’s designed specifically for wet foods.
If you’d rather use your own lunch box, just buy a couple of 2-ounce leak-proof dip containers. The little Prepd sauce pots work well, as do the silicone sauce cups from Ello. Pair those with any cheap bento or even a simple compartmentalized container, and you’re fine. That’s the route to go if you want more flexibility than a fixed tray gives you.
But if you want one thing that just works and you’re okay with built-in sections, Yumbox wins. It’s a bit more expensive, and the gaskets need occasional cleaning, but it holds its promise.
Don’t trust a lid without a gasket.
