Foggers are for emergencies; traps are for control

The big difference is that foggers kill adult mosquitoes on contact while traps target the breeding cycle by luring and killing females before they lay eggs.

Foggers (thermal or ULV) create a cloud of insecticide that wipes out every mosquito in the immediate area. That’s great for a backyard party or if you’re getting eaten alive right now. But the effect lasts only a few hours because new mosquitoes fly in from neighboring yards. You’re basically playing whack-a-mole.

Traps (CO2 or octenol baited) work differently. They mimic a human by producing carbon dioxide or scent. Female mosquitoes come looking for a blood meal and get sucked into a fan or zapped. Over a few weeks, this can actually reduce the local population because you’re killing the ones that would have laid eggs. But traps don’t cover a huge area and need regular maintenance (refilling bait, cleaning).

My take: if you only buy one, get a trap and run it all season. Foggers are for when you need a quick fix for an event or a sudden swarm. Don’t expect a fogger to solve your mosquito problem for more than an
